Description
This Programme is the fifth phase of projects funded by the Government of Germany to provide relief to Palestinian Communities in the West Bank & Gaza Strip through small and medium scale social infrastructure works. This component of projects will tackle priority infrastructure needs of the community through employment generation and labor intensive techniques. Under this huge programme, 13 projects are being implemented in the water sector. The objectives of these projects are to increase access to reliable water supply, improve water quantities and qualities, reduce water leakage and unaccounted for water.
The specific objectives of the programme are to:
- Alleviate poverty,
- Generate employment for the unemployed
- Improve access to basic social services in impoverished Palestinian communities by implementing labor-intensive infrastructure projects.
- Project Activities
Within the overarching KFW V-Porgramme, project activities and respective costs are as follows:
- Rehabilitation of the Water Network ($160,578)
- Development of the Water Network ($321,520)
- Construcition of Internal Water Network ($146,020)
- Construction of 1500m3 water tank ($87,750)
- Construction of a water tank at Akbet Jabr Camp ($292,040)
- Extension of the main water network ($219,030)
- Rehabilitation of internal water network phase 1 ($292,040)
- Construction of water reservoir and pumping station ($263,158)
- Rehabilitation of main water network ($182,750)
- Work on the main water network ($160,825)
- Construction of a 500m3 water tank and 1500m pipeline ($160,825)
- Rehabilitation and extension of Jenin WWTP ($146,020)
- Progress to date
- 120 project activities have been selected including five contingency projects.
- 80 project activities have been completed (67 in the West Bank & 13 in the Gaza Strip)
- 5 Projects are ongoing in the West Bank.
- Three project activities under contract signature in the West Bank.
- One project activity under tender in the West Bank
- Three project activities are pending in the West Bank.
- 6 project activities in the Gaza Strip are terminated and the remaining 21 are suspended due to lack of materials for construction.
- To date 145,052 workdays have been generated.
- To date, 351 permanent jobs have been created, of which 176 are for females.
- Expected Outputs
- It is anticipated that 280,842 workdays will be created through these project activities.
- Better access to basic social services will be provided as a result of the construction works.
