Description :

This set of Policy Principles is designed to support all stakeholders in their efforts to promote efficient, effective and equitable access to safe drinking water and sanitation.

It provides a general framework for addressing problems identified in connection with water and sanitations services, including the option of private-sector participation (PSP). It should contribute to increasing the potential of PSP and reducing the risks associated with investing in PSPs, and thus to encouraging the flow of funds. This should in turn facilitate the provision of water services and foster political will for action.

It is part of a package comprising “Implementation Guidelines” for specific application areas (urban, rural, small towns) and a “Toolkit Container”. The second advanced product in this package is the “Implementation Guidelines for Private-Sector Participation in Sustainable Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Services”, is intended to assist actors in the water sector in designing and implementing concrete PSP projects by providing detailed actionable proposals.
