Description
The city of Kaedi (capital Gorgol) has forged its reputation on the expertise of its dyeing industry that provides substantial income. However, in the absence of an adequate system, women are forced to dump sewage into the river which constitutes an environmental hazard as the dye includes, among its components, highly toxic products that threaten the lives of fish in the river. It is in this context that the project plans to set up a wastewater treatment for the dyeing industry at Moughataa Kaedi, helping to preserve the river from pollution. It will establish a system of collecting water from dyeing at the household level and transporting the wastewater to a recycling centre. The final product will be analyzed to see the degree of toxicity compared to the raw water.
