Description
Nella Secondary School is in Kwimba District. The district is affected with water shortage and has thus been affected with recurring outbreaks of water borne diseases. Schools being a public place is much more affected by the situation.
The project aims at demonstrating on how rainwater harvesting technology can be used to improve water supply and sanitation in schools, whcih are located in areas where conventional water supply systems such as gravity and shallow wellas are not feasible. There will be construction of a one rainwater harvesting tank of 50,000 litres and the project will develop two wing improved pit latrines(VIP) connected with the rainwater havestinfg tank of 10,000 litres capacity. Each wing will be for one gender for the students hygiene. There will also be some seminars on hygiene education and environmental sanitation. It is expected that the project will contribute towards reduction in outbreaks of water borne diseases in the area especially to school children.

- Community will participate in project implementation whereby they will provide sand, gravel, stones and water for construction purposes.

- Seminars on hygiene and environmental sanitation will improve school children knowledge and capacities in those areas and so reduction of preventable diseases.

- The project will contribute towards reduction of outbreaks of water borne diseases hence improved school childrens health.
- Gender Focus
- Availability of water within short distances will contribute towards enjoymen tof school life by both gender. They will have ample time for studying unlike when they had to look for water from far .

- The school community will participate in the project implemetation and the outcomes thereoff.
- Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
- The project will contribute to raisng wawarenes on the importance of water and sanitation hence Millenium Development Goals.
