Description
The project is a response to a joint declaration adopted at a high-level Forum "Uranium Tailings in Central Asia: Local Problems, Regional Consequences, Global Solution". The forum was held in Geneva on 29th June 2009 and the joint declaration calls for a coordinated approach to remove threats to the population and environment from hazardous radioactive waste. This project will set up a Project Formulation and Coordination Support Unit in order to a) support governments in creating a coherent portfolio of projects aimed at mitigating various aspects of radioactive waste; b)liaise with the Governments of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and others, to support their responses; and c) mobilize and coordinate donor responses.
