Description

Eppawala though having enough water resources to get the water facility none of project has not implemented for providing drinking water facility to the villagers. People are using unsafe wellw water for drinking water. Most of the villagers do not have their own wells, and as a result face difficulties in getting water. Moreover, the villagers lack hygiene and sanitary education.


The objective of the project is to provide safe drinking water to the community of Eppawala Grama Niladhari Division; improve the Hygiene of Home Education knowledge, health and sanitation facilities; conserve home gardening by directing peopleto organic farming; strengthen the Community Based Organization(CBO) which has formed from the UNDP/GEF/SGP Project; and finally provide necessary knowledge on rural water management.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

variety of indigenous yam were introduced to hundred selected home gardens. People can cultivate these as a commercial venture and also they supply the harvest to the CDC. women from selected families are trained on producing various sweets using yam.
