Description

The project will support the provision of water and sanitation services in the context of the intervention Chile Barrio Program and improve the conditions of the urban environment of the commune of Hualpén, VIII region of Bio Bio, Chile. This will be achieved through the design and implementation of an entity doing business, managing and maintaining these services, in order to give sustainability. This is important in the area which contains the poorest sectors of society and where fully-operational structures do not exist.

The goals of the project are aimed at achieving a comprehensive way: to lower poverty rates and improve the quality of life of the inhabitants and prevent disease and health problems caused by environmental pollution. Moreover, the project aims to implement a framework of public private partnerships-training programs for the poor, to generate new economic and productive activities around the development of Water Resource Management services.

The strategy for achieving these goals combines different stages, among which are:

  • conducting an assessment of the environmental situation of the community,
  • supporting the supply of water and sanitation services,
  • design and creation of enabling public-private management,
  • operate and maintain water and sanitation systems, and
  • create and strengthen capabilities of the population to generate sources of employment and participate in prevention activities, recovery and monitoring of the environment.
