Synopsis/Description/Objectives

Mnazi Bay in Mtwara Rural District is establishing a Marine Park to ensure conservation of the existing marine species. This effort is beset by over exploitation of fish and other marine resources due to the fact that most of the residents are poverty ridden and so depend entirely on natural resources. This project tries to diversify source of livelihood/income whereby the community will involve themselves expanding cashewnut production as income generating activity as cashewnut is one of the reliable cash crop in the area. By so doing pressure will have been reduced on the number and the intense of people involved in fishing.

The objective of this project is to promote conservation of the Mnazi Bay Marine Park through cashewnut production as alternative income generating activity to fishing.
