The Event: GEF Small Grants Programme – Resources for Environment and Communities will take place in Bucharest, on Friday 11 November 2005, 10:00–17:00 hours. The GEF (Global Environment Facility) Small Grants Programme (SGP) is currently active in 84 countries, illustrating that, with small amounts of funding (maximum US$50,000 per project), global environmental problems can be mitigated if issues are addressed adequately at the local level with the involvement of the local population. At its first year anniversary in Romania, GEF SGP is pleased to share its achievements to date with a large category of stakeholders: government, financing institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), mass media. The projects will speak for themselves, through the involved NGOs and community representatives, showing how effectively local communities undertake activities that make a significant difference in their lives and environment. The participants will have a glimpse of local initiatives from the seaside to Maramures and Bucovina regions, including an exhibition with projects' products.
