The Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) signed in December 1997 setting out targets and timetables for industrialized countries to reduce emissions of six greenhouse gasses by at least five percent below 1990 levels in the period 2008-2012 and other provisions. It will enter into effect 90 days after ratification by not less than 55 Parties, including industrialized parties that in total account for at least 55 percent of the total carbon dioxide emissions for 1990. | |
