World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD)

About

The World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) or Earth Summit 2002 took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 26 August to 4 September 2002 to discuss ways of implementing sustainable development in the world. More than 100 world leaders and thousands of NGOs, government delegates and buisness representatives attended the Summit, which was held 10 years after the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (also known as the first Earth Summit) in Rio de Janeiro. It was therefore also informally nicknamed "Rio+10"
