Description
The aim of the project is to ensure the integrated, cooperative, sustainable, ecosystem-based management and use of the living coastal and marine resources, including fisheries and biodiversity, of the Arafura and Timor Seas, through the formulation, adoption (at inter-governmental level) and initial implementation of a Regional Strategic Action Programme (SAP).
The Five specific focus areas of the programme include:
- To prevent, deter & eliminate IUU fishing in Arafura & Timor (AT) Seas.
- To sustain & preserve fish stocks, sea habitat & biodiversity, & coast of AT Seas.
- To provide alternative livelihoods using aquaculture and/or mariculture.
- To promote understanding on the systems of dynamic ocean, coastal and fishing areas.
- To improve information capacity on ocean data, management & exchange.
