Official WHO Definition | Domestic use as it relates to water supply is water intended for human consumption, food preparation, utensil washing, hygiene and any other direct human contact use. It must be of sufficient quality to serve as drinking water (Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand 2003).Water used by the public (home use) (Symons et al. 2000).

Interpretations and Explanations
Domestic use is that water delivered for normal personal use within a property. It may be a residential place of living, schools and commercial premises for the same domestic uses as described above. It must be protected from contamination at all times. It must be installed in a manner which avoids the likelihood of cross connection, and installed using approved materials that will not contaminate the water (World Plumbing Council Working Group 2008).
