Description
The objective of the project is to protect critical Nile Basin ecosystems from transboundary threats through the provision of a strategic environmental framework and the engagement of stakeholders according to the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). The project will improve understanding of the relationship between water resources development and the environment in the Basin, and will provide a forum to discuss development paths for the Nile with a wide range of stakeholders. The environmental framework established by the project will also promote: (a) enhanced basin-wide cooperation and environmental awareness essential to the successful implementation of the Agenda for Environmental Action in the Nile Basin through the NBI’s SVP, SAPs and other programmes, and (b) enhanced environmental management capacity for the NBI, a basin-wide institution.
