Bugs and quick fixes == === High Priority (fix NOW!) =

  • LINE-BREAK before new chapter: when opening edit box by chapters (right-side edit-link), after saving again the system seems to eliminate too many line-breaks after the last text line; that's fine in principle, but it's eliminating one too many, leading to almost no-space between text and the next heading.
-> Make this autamatic function to leave at least 2 line-breaks; then
-> Make sure all <br> inserted now manually to ensure enough line-breaks before the next heading are eliminated (Wiki-bot eliminating only <br> that come immediately before == TEXT ==, === TEXT ===, ==== TEXT ====, etc.) 
Didn't understand. Seems to be working now.
  • On the Main Page Map, Romania is where Russia is ... (fixed by Kairat Alaichiev)
  • prohibit overwrite of existing documents? (or better warning when this happens; there is some bug there) 
When the existing documents is opened for editing, the editing person will see the content in the 
edit box. Or the content text doesn't appear in the textbox? I don't seem to understand this 
problem.
  • Fix the "Send me my / Send new password" function on Log-in page! 
There must be some problem in the code itself. Will need to look into that
  • Fix user-link in top row (now pointing at the actual page) to point at user-page! 
When I fresh installed mediawiki-1.4.7, that userlink points to the userpage. There must be some
 overwrite in the code during customization. Will need to look into the code
  • Use this to generate alphabetical lists list 
Didn't understand.
The categories are listed alphabetically now. Is the problem fixed? Or I misunderstood??.
  • The CoP Members should be listed by name and not by User:firstname.lastname. But the User:first.lastname page gives the User contributions (important) while the other page does not. 
User Contributions link appear only that the login users of wiki. That is the wiki-account is a must 
if the user page is to display user contribution. 
The solution is to create a user, move that user current page to User:firstname.lastname, then user 
contribution link will appear. 
http://europeandcis.undp.org/WaterWiki/index.php/Special:Listusers lists those users who can actually 
login to the system and make changes. Only these users' pages will have user contribution link.

Unfortunately the wiki is not for that purpose. Either a separate extension needs to be developed 
(which will take time) or use a different calendar/event system and import RSS into the Wiki
  • The Country takes us to the country page. But it does not list all the articles on WaterWiki for that country. How to change that? 
 [[Category:Country]] only lists the articles categorized as country, hence clicking on any 
country, say Albania, will display the article page on Albania. However Category:Albania can also 
be categories as [[Category:Country]], typing [[Category:Country]] in the Category:Albania edit 
page. This will display Albania as a subcategory in [[Category:Country]] page, along with the 
article page of Albania. Clicking on Albania under sub-category will take to the list articles for
Albania.
  • The listing in any Category (for example Article ) also lists the old pictures and files. How to remove the old pictures and files so that we only get listing of the articles? 
I don't understand how this happened. The pictures/files should only get listed in the category 
page if [[category:categoryname]] is written in the description page. However I managed to get some 
image files off the category:country. The procedure is:
First go to http://europeandcis.undp.org/WaterWiki/index.php/Category:Country
Click the image at the bottom of the list
Click Edit
Type [[Category:Country]] and Save the page
  This is the procedure to get image/file listed in the category page
Again after saving, click Edit
Remove [[Category:Country]] and Save the page
  Now image will get unlisted from the category page
I don't know how to explain this. But I think that these maybe coming from the cache. If I can get 
hold of database, I may get the answer. But I can't guarantee. If that is due to cache, then the 
problem will be solved in a matter of second, otherwise will need to think about other alternatives.


Medium/Low priority (needs to be done soon)

  • Sinlge line-break in edit-mode doesn't result in a line-break in view-mode. Many contributors don't realize -> should (and could) it be changed? 
It can be done. But should it be done? Well mediawiki is designed in such a way. 
But there may arise issues like when generating lists (esp in case of numbered lists), extra
line-break will break the list. So will need to be careful while working on this issue

By default there will be discussion page for every article/content page. Must have been disabled somewhere in the code. Can be done.
  • some sort of WaterWiki logo or text on the main page or all pages/WaterWiki title on main and other pages

  • better instructions on upload page (where does it go and how to access it - see help)
    • Is it possible to enable upload directly into other parts of the page, e.g. when using the function from the open edit-window?? 
The fresh installed mediawiki-1.4.7 has some instructions on upload page and also has a link of 
list of uploaded files. http://europeandcis.undp.org/WaterWiki/index.php/Special:Imagelist has the 
uploaded files list. I didn't understand the second point - upload directly into other parts...

  • What is the point of Userpages? Can the UserPage be titled by name only (and not have the suffix User in front of the name)? 
Suffix User represents that that user is a wiki user, who can actually make changes.
  • Recent Additions? - How to keep track of the recent additions, the newest articles?

Medium Priority

  • Solve the whole User-issue:
    • When adding a new User, how to automatically create a profile-page?
    • Automated (but fomated) User-pages? (Instead of the Contacts and Colleagues page?)
  • Lists:
    • How to generate automatic lists (in alphabetical order) of the different categories?? 
http://europeandcis.undp.org/WaterWiki/index.php/Advanced_Help#Dynamic_Pages will generate automatic 
list. However for alphabetical order, some tweaks are needed. Currently the order is done according to 
the page created date
  • Look into upgrade to higher Media-Wiki version:
    • pros/cons in general (stable?)
    • advanced edit-functions such as tables, frames, etc.?
    • hierarchical pages (for instance: workspace/Water_Strategy; or: Situation_in_Central_Asia/Transboundary_River_Basins), with disambiguation pages
    • Possible to have a "Discussion Forum" there (or maybe this will be solved with the talk-page/function?)
    • newer look and/or different skins
  • Wikibot to automatically update and interlink existing text with new information e.g. if World Bank is added as a new organisation, all mention of World Bank in WaterWiki should point to World Bank page.
  • Wikibot to change/update the template automatically as required ]
  • Change formating code from <b> or <i> back into '' or ''' (Wikibot and change the edit-buttons)
  • explanation for what 'what links here' is
  • amend/align lingo throughout WaterWiki:
    • articles OR pages OR entries
    • "Content"-pages/entries? / concepts_issues_definitions? / ...?
    • images --> files (in dialogies)
  • instructions on giving names to new articles/page: need rules of thumb on content and title creations (country-year-name)
  • login timeout due to expiring SESSIONID
  • legal stuff in disclaimer

  • longrun: expired pages, events, etc (like on intranet)
