Mission/Mandate
Launched by UNDP in collaboration with SIWI (and jointly funded by UNDP and SIDA), this new programme is "supporting development countries to improve water governance". Adhering to the achievements of the MDGs, the WGF promotes "Prudent water management [that] is crucial for reaching national development objectives and for improving the livelihoods of poor people".
The UNDP Water Governance Facility at SIWI will provide strategic support to achieve:
1. Improved water governance to advance socially equitable, environmentally sustainable and economically efficient management of water resources, including water and sanitation services
2. Implementation of IWRM at local, national, and regional levels
3. MDG and WSSD targets for water supply and sanitation
The UNDP WGF will provide services to Developing Countries upon request, and will work through existing UNDP operational networks.
