Description
This project will build the capacity of an NGO on Union Island which is part of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The project is phase 1 of a two phased project which uses an experiential learning process. The project objectives are to:
- strengthen the capacity of the UIEA to undertake conservation and sustainable development projects through participatory approaches;
- increase public awareness and build consensus for action in addressing solid waste pollution from yachts; and
- improve the management of the marine environment by significantly reducing pollution from yachts.
Project activities will include: the preparation of a baseline study; Strategic Planning; Capacity Development; A Community Clean Up Exercise; and the Preparation of a Marine Management Plan.
- Expected Project Outcomes
- A strengthened organisation with the capacity to undertake projects in conservation and sustainable development;
- A well informed group of stakeholders working together in addressing pollution problems of Union Island; and
- Improvement in environmental quality measured by a decrease in solid waste in the environment.
