Description

Hawf Protected Area was declared in 2005, and is located at the extreme east of Yemen close to the Sultanate of Oman border, considered the eastern door to Yemen. Solid waste is one of the problems faced by local communities in the urban and rural areas. Plastic bags cover trees and shrubs and cattle and camels ingest them causing disturbance to the natural scenery and animal mortality. The project addresses these problems through improving collection system, disposal in the dump place, recycling, raise awareness among tourists and resident alike on the impact of solid waste. Wider public awareness with campaigns will help to maintain the protected area clean to emphasis its protection status.
