Description

The main activities of this project include:

  • Building communities’ capacity by conducting trainings, seminars, study tours, and forums on environmental issues
  • Enacting ideas and practices explored during capacity-building process
  • Disseminating project results and lessons-learned


Anticipated outputs
  • Target location 1:
  1. Increased population of blue swimming crabs (nightly catch of approx. 100 kilos/boat)
  2. Community members and major stakeholders show increased capacity for environmental stewardship
  • Target location 2:
  1. One volunteer group established
  2. 16-ha increase in size of mangrove forest; area now maintained and protected by community
  3. Community members and major stakeholders show increased capacity for marine resource conservation (esp. re: mangrove rehabilitation)
  • Target location 3:
  1. Demonstration areas established for solid waste management (esp. re: recycling, organic compost production, and use of water-soluble organic compounds)
  2. Community members manage solid waste effectively; garbage volume has been cut in half (now 20 tons/day)
