Description

1,250 families (2,550 people) from 20 villages in Phu Khiew and Kasetsomboon districts. Nearly all project members (90%) are farmers who depend on the provisions of the Phrom Rivers Ecosystem, an integrated ecosystem of the Mekong River. Local livelihoods are threatened by degradation caused by land and forest encroachment, chemical-intensive agriculture, and unsustainable resource consumption. Major stakeholders include:

  • The Centre for Community Ecological Study
  • The Northeastern Land Reform Network
  • Six Tambol Administrative Organizations in target area
  • Phu Khiew Office of Forest Conservation

Planned activities:

  1. Compile and analyze resource inventories
  2. Conduct capacity building for participants
  3. Document indigenous knowledge and practices
  4. Demonstrate conservation activities; campaign for good environmental stewardship
  5. Use participatory methods to monitor and evaluate project

Anticipated outputs:

  1. 500 community leaders and 2,000 project members show increased environmental capacity, as evidenced by ability to plan sustainable use of land, water and forest
  2. 400 ha of wetland and 3,200 ha of catchment area are rehabilitated, and protected against future encroachment
