Description

The project is located on an island in an ecological portion of the Sea of Bengal (international water no. 53 of the Global International Water Assessment). Major stakeholders include:

  • Mangrove Development Station
  • Provincial and District Office of Fishery
  • Tambol Administrative Organizations on the island
  • Sustainable Ecosystems and Local Livelihood Rehabilitation of Kor Lanta Project

Planned activities:

  1. Propagate aqua species and provide appropriate habitats (reef and sea grass)
  2. Build financial capacity for cooperatives and fish market
  3. Launch campaigns against destructive fishing, and promoting sustainable practices and surveillance to ensure compliance
  4. Enact community regulations for coastal resource conservation, and community monitoring of relevant public policy
  5. Facilitate collaboration amongst five tambols to formulate a development strategy for Kor Lanta

Anticipated project outputs:

  1. Small fishermen’s group has capacity to sustainably manage coastal resources; they are more self-reliant, and quality of life improves
  2. Community and nation-wide action plans are created re: coastal resources management
