Description

This project will include provision of assistance to the Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to enhance the level of their cooperation in the use of water and energy resources in the region. The activities include:

1. Facilitation of the dialogue among the stakeholder countries and follow up work on the Water-Energy Nexus;
2. Managing non-bank funds, mobilized for supporting this task, including but not limited to supervision and support to relevant consultants' work, funded by Bank-managed donor trust fund facilities (such as ESMAP and others);
3. Mobilization and coordination of other donors' assistance, including but not limited to preparation of relevant materials and participation in research, workshops, forums on regional cooperation such as the Ministerial Conference and Senior Officials Meetings within CAREC (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation) organization; sessions of the working groups of CACO (Central Asia Cooperation Organization) and other venues that may take place within the regional dialogue;
4. Developing briefs on regional issues;
5. Other related work on knowledge sharing and consensus building.

The work under this project will be closely coordinated with Water Energy Consortium Task (P090550) which is a component of the Joint Economic Research Program (JERP) between the World Bank and Government of Kazakhstan. Furthermore, the task is a four-year duration (FY05-FY08) with funding and deliverables each year.
